Our Story
In the winter of 1923, Édouard Cloister — a respected Lyonnais merchant, a devoted grandfather, and a man of otherwise impeccable taste — lost his life in an incident that investigators would later attribute, in part, to the wallpaper.
The pattern was beige. The year was 1923. Little more needs to be said.
His grandson, Marcel Cloister, was fourteen years old when he stood at the graveside and made the vow that would shape the next century of interior design. There would be no more beige. There would be no more ordinary. There would, above all, be no more wallpaper that simply sat there.
Maison Cloister was founded in Paris in 1951. Marcel worked alone for eleven years before accepting his first commission. He believed that a wall which failed to astonish was a wall that had failed entirely.
We have not changed our position.

Original Artist Commission
Our Atelier Collection begins with a conversation. A commissioned original — painted in our London studio by one of our retained artists — is digitally archived at 1,200dpi and hand-finished for print on our signature 280gsm cotton-silk substrate. Every home deserves an original. Now every wall can have one.

Benedictine Artisan Series
In a silent monastery in Burgundy, each pattern is hand-traced by a single artisan over the course of fourteen days. We do not rush the process. The process does not permit it. No two rolls are identical, and no roll has ever been finished on a Friday.

PalateWall™ is the world’s first flavour-integrated wallpaper collection. Using food-grade micro-encapsulated flavour compounds bound within a plant-cellulose substrate, every wall becomes an experience. The Citrus Grove collection pairs our hand-illustrated Meyer lemon botanical print with a sustained citrus release. The pattern and the flavour are, quite deliberately, the same thing.

In our Geneva atelier, each roll undergoes a final finishing stage unlike any other in the industry. A master craftsman exhales once — slowly, deliberately, from selvedge to selvedge across the full length of the roll. What this achieves, precisely, remains proprietary. That it matters is beyond question.
